Genetic Networks
Quantitative Biology
We study the function and evolution of gene networks involved in the control of mitochondrial biogenesis. Our experimental model is the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but we are also interested in the role of mitochondrial protein import in human pathologies.
Through a combination of experimental and bioinformatics approaches, we are interested in:- studying the evolution and appearance in the genomes of signals addressing proteins to mitochondria (called MTSs);- establishing the rules that control this evolution, i.e. elucidating the relationship between the structure and sequence of MTSs and their import efficiency;- identifying “cryptic” MTSs conferring either dual localization properties to proteins annotated as cytosolic, or mitochondrial localization to protein isoforms resulting from physiological or pathological regulations (in the context of cancer for example) of transcription and translation.
